CO2 Sequestration Using Sodium Hydroxide and Its Utilization for Chlorella sorokiniana Biomass Production

Chlorella is widely used for its fast growth rate and easy cultivation with 14–30% lipid content 36–59% dry weight. Thus, sodium hydroxide to increase carbon consumption, biomass, metabolites productions in microalgae. This study was conducted observe the effect of addition on biomass production photoautotrophic cultivated sorokiniana. Microalgae C.sorokiniana (LIPI12-Al016) obtained from culture collection Bioprocess Engineering Research Group laboratory, National Innovation Agency. Then, microalgae were media various concentrations hydroxide. Biomass measured by gravimetry, consumption acid-alkalimetry. Sodium 60 mM gave best growth, maximizing average 691.8 mg.L-1 598.3 mg.L-1. The utilization NaOH medium did not content, except protein. Carbohydrate dominant metabolite among others. Fatty acids profile mainly composed C16 C18 fatty acids, which are favorable biodiesel production. These results an overview potency C. sorokiniana as a CO2 mitigation agent alternative sources energy nutrition.
